OY.... hope this works out ok for you. We've tortured with this "thug" - - - it was planted before we moved in. It's invasive and indestructible. If nothing else, it's earned spot #5 in the top garden thugs rogues gallery!
I don't think you and paparock are talking about the same plant--I have a feeling paparocks' plant is an Otatea species (which is really a bamboo, unlike the one in your link) [HYPERLINK@davesgarden.com]
thanks for current replies. the nursery advised us that these were non-invasive type
mexican weeping bamboo - root-ball much like a palm tree. I was just wondering
more about thinning techniques. should we cut some/all of the new shoots (they grow
very quickly and tower over the original plants)? or, leave smaller ones to match the
desired height?
Unfortunately I don't think that's a super common type of bamboo to grow, the place where you'll get the best answers would be in the Grass and Bamboo forum but I'm pretty sure you have to be a subscriber to access that one. I've heard of this bamboo and think it's pretty but unfortunately have no actual experience with it.
