On average, how many feet per year will a red maple grow? I bought a small (about 4 foot; scraggly) red maple from Meijer. It was on clearance since it's late August....and it only had a tag that said "Red Maple". I would really like to know which red maple. How can I identify it? Thanks!

There are so many varieties of red maple that an ID would be difficult (especially for me--I'm no expert). But I can tell you I planted 5 red maples on the west side of our house when we finished building it four years ago. They were about 4 feet tall at planting and are now approximately 15 feet. And I don't even have mine planted in an ideal site for red maples since they like moist ground but they seem to be pretty tough trees. They are in hard clay soil and get blasted by the hot (up to 100+ degrees) sun all summer long. I did give them plenty of supplemental watering for the first two years. I wonder how big they'd be if they were planted in their preferred situation.
