When are these BeardTongue ready for seeding? Also, I have Cupid's Dart (catananche caerulea), Where are the seeds for these? Sorry no picture of them, but any help is apprieciated.
When the beardtongue (penstemon) seeds are ready, you will be able to shake them out of the capsules, which will be dry and tan-coloured; you can also break the capsules open to release them - be careful, the capsules have sharp points on the ends.
The seeds on catananche are exactly where all seeds are located - more-or-less at the base of the flower petals (where the ovaries were located).
On the blanket flower (gaillardia), the seeds are ready to be picked from the seedheads in the picture that are starting to fall apart.
Thanks altagardener...I figured that with the blanket flower (gaillardia), but wanted to make sure. The catananche seed I was really clueless because of the way the flower closes up and dries so thank you very much. I still have blooms on the beardtongue (penstemon) but I wanted to make sure I was heading the right direction. Thanks again.
