we happened upon this family owned nursery by happy surprise.

they were having a tree sale and of couse dh and i shrieked to
a 10G turn around. we were unconscious for a very short amt
of time, till the happy big ol' plumber butt gum crackin owner
cane over and then when he was able to converse in latin with
me, and varietal with propagators, i then found out he was also
a certified landscape architect and he advises msu. incredible.
we wound up bringing home absolutely gorgeous big pinus strobus
pendula, cercis 'lavender twist',hinoki nana and then ed threw in
6 5 gallon rhoadies too and some peat. please tell him i sent you.

their trees are grown on in thier 87 acre tree nursery for our
pleasure. they guaranteed my trees also.

on the way home we stopped at hidden lake gardens of msu.
its 800 acres of loving, ernest, focused, multileveled gardens
and arboretum,3 conservatory, gift shop (feh), specimen tree
garden, arboretum, school laboratories for msu, garden club for
hosta, hiking, picnicing, weddings, school photo ,well to
incredibly well tended gardens. there is a new rare and dwarf
conifer collection surrounded by electric fencing to keep out
deers, but many people friendly gates for us non pine needle
eating creatures.

the high woodland arboreal forest was awash in golden
late afternoon sun streaming down through all the huge
hicories and underplanted with oceans of vinca.

what a treat!
btw, msu maintains their dairy farm nearby us the same
way. incredibly clean cows (how many baths do you think
those cows get per week/per student?)who are so sweet
and give you big cow kisses, and the baby calfs are the
same way. talk about excellance.
