If you take out a FTG membership, many botanical gardens honour it and you don't have to pay their entrance fees.
There are many classes given, from baking, to horticulture to watercolouring workshops, ect. Also, their classes are less expensive if you're a member. Events schedule: [HYPERLINK@www.fairchildgarden.org]
Excellent Botanical garden with monthly 'Special Events' througout the winter season. Its open throughout the year but in summertime its sweltering this far south!

This is, in my opinion, THE botanical gardens for the entire US (since it's TROPICAL!!). It's huge, and one can hardly be expected to see the entire place in a single day (83 acres). They have tens of thousands of species of rare tropical plants there including the best collection of palms in the US (especially if you include the associated garden 1 mile down the street: the Montgomery Foundation Gardens). They also have a huge and impressive cycad collection and lots of other less interesting (to me) plants... but you really can't beat the climate for growing. It's also the most expensive garden I have visited ($20 entrance fee)- not outrageous, but since it takes 2-3 days to see everything, it can be an expensive trip. But well worth it, too me.
