This nursery is so good, their reputation travels across the pond to England - Heidi, the owner, is always generous with plant knowledge, ideas, and is funny to boot! This is genuine old fashioned enthusiastic service! World Class!

Ditto what the others have said. This nursery is well worth a trip to get there. And we went at a time of year when most nurseries don't have a great selection - I can only imagine what it's like in the spring!!!

I was very impressed with the garden areas. if ever you had a area, and you just could not come up with a idea of what to do, just walk these grounds. Always something new and exciting around the corner. It may be a piece of garden art or how to lay out the plants for the right effect. And the owner Heidi Kaster will go above and beyond to help, and she is a walking plant book can tell you what it is, how tall, how the flowers look and the color of them with out opening a book. She also has done landscaping and you can tell that by looking at the flow of how the gardens join.
And the nursery area, very healthy plants and very well laid out. You can look every few feet and see something very unique, that you may never see at any other nursery. And if she doesnt have that certain plant you may want, She will find it for you.
Its like Disneyland you can't see it or absorb it all one day.
Well worth the trip. just glorious.

What a delightful surprise this nursery is - not only are the plants varied and often unusual (not to mention healthy), but Heidi, the owner is the kind of individual you immediately want to have as your best friend. She is bright, funny, welcoming, and human. She is as knowledgeable as they come, but will admit when she doesn't know something as well (refreshing!). Not only is Heidi a learned and experienced plant woman, but she is also an artist - examples of her art (as well as that of others) are everywhere. She and her husband live in the charming house that is there on their property and little surprise paths and gardens greet you at every turn.
Six of us descended on her last Sunday and she welcomed us with open arms and gave us a guided tour that would have been worth an entrance fee. Every one of us went home with a load of new plants and we all have lists of things to buy when we return in the Spring - if you are within 100 miles of this place, I highly recommend that you visit Heidi and Dragonfly Farms next March when they reopen!

Today several of us from DG went to Dragonfly Farms Nursery. The owner Heidi Kaster gave us a delightful tour (we called ahead) and is incredibly knowledgeable about all of her hundreds of plants. She purchased many plants from Heronswood Nursery when they closed thier doors. She has all kinds of unique and hard to find plants.
The motto of the nursery is "Where Abnormality is the Normality!"
I have been to many nurseries thoughout the state and this is by far one of the best!
The nursery is open March to October -- Fridays & Saturdays 9am - 5pm
Sundays 9am - 4pm
Hope you get a chance to visit this glorious place! Check out thier website it has a list of all the plants that they have. It also has a few pictures of the nursery.

Owner, Heidi, is gracious and hospitable and a font of information! She talks 'gardening' easily with people and is generous with her own knowlege. She has a large selection of healthy plants with many unusual varieties, many of which could previously only be bought at the now-closed Heronswood Gardens which is just down the road from her place. Many others simply reflect the good taste of a dedicated plant addict. Again, she has things other nurseries have never heard of. I could have spent hours exploring all that she has to offer. She also carried very cool garden art and you'll find it artfully placed within the garden. Be sure to greet the big monitor lizard that stands sentinal in one area. Special to her garden is her 'Austin Powers' garden art - funky and fun with that special scifi '60s style - retro yet modern. It was completely worth a drive to Kingston just to visit her place. If you are nursery hopping for the day, it's a good starting place.
She is closed from November to March, but call if you are in the area during these times. You never know! If she is home you might just get plant-lucky.
