The Boston Public Garden located next to Boston Common is also fabulous to visit while in downtown Boston. It is a 25 acre square garden that was America's first public botanical garden. One of the most popular things to do in the Public Garden is to take a swan boat ride which have been in operation since 1877. Also popular with the children is to see the statues of the mother, father and baby ducks based on the Robert McCloskey book "Make Way for Ducklings". Some of the trees planted include a 100 ft tall European Beech, a giant redwood, a dawn redwood, rare tea crab, Kwanzan cherry trees that are beautiful in bloom in spring time. Be sure also to visit the George Washington statue near the Arlington Street gate.
