The plant sale is indeed a wonderful opportunity to pick up many hard-to-find native plants for a very reasonable price, but the arboretum itself is not the showpiece it once was. However, if you want to view many native plants in a natural environment (especially trees), this is a wonderful place to visit! The best time to visit is in spring when many plants are blooming, though a late fall visit after the weather turns cool can also be a delight. Other than for the plant sale, I would not consider the arboretum to be a destination spot in its present condition, but hopefully volunteer efforts will restore it to its former luster soon! But, it is an enjoyable diversion for a few hours if you are already in the area.

The plantfest in October is a plant lovers dream. If you are looking for hard to find plants for our Louisiana climate this is the sale to go to. It is only one weekend a year so mark your calendar. Bring a big wagon and a lunch because this sale is huge and tons of fun.
