Burkard's has a wide variety of plants from which to choose. It is a well stocked nursery with something for everyone - from tropicals to bedding plants, they have something for every taste. They offer a small selection of indoor potted plants as well. Everything was in excellent health and it was a very interesting place to visit. Burkard's is a Pasadena institution, having been on this location for close to 100 years.

Most of their shrubs are in 5 and 15 gallon pots, which is a disadvantage for thrifty gardeners willing to wait for a plant to grow and fill in, but is a boon to the less patient among us. That said, even at the larger sizes, their prices are on the high side of average, but not astronomical.

Much of the stock was not labeled for price or species, and the arrangement of some areas was more decorative than helpful to the gardener who knows what he or she is looking for. I found it hard to compare plants of the same kind, as some were in front of the store while others were interspersed between plants of a completely different nature in another part of the nursery.

Burkard's is a great place to check for the unusual or hard-to-find plant that you wish to have as a specimen. Definitely worth the visit!
